Classic Textiles

The Centre for Advanced Textiles at the Glasgow School of Art offers a commercial digital textile printing service, and, under the name Classic Textiles, reproduces designs from some of the U.K.’s most prominent and influential textile designers. Lucienne Day herself selected the 12 designs for the Centre, which they print (in the original colorways) on a 135cm (about 53 inches) wide cotton/linen blend.

Robert Stewart was a student and teacher at the Glasgow School of Art. He designed textiles for Liberty, Donald Brothers, and the Edinburgh Tapestry Company, and later went on to found a ceramics company and create ceramic murals for public places.

The newest designer in the Classic Textiles catalog is Sylvia Chalmers. She was also a student of the Glasgow School of Art who went on to found her own textile printing studio called Tuar Fabrics, and designed fashion prints for Elizabeth Eaton.

New Work By Samantha Hahn

Who can get enough of fashion illustration, am I right? That is why when Brooklyn-based illustrator Samantha Hahn wrote in to share her latest work I couldn’t resist showing them to you. Colorful, cheerful, energetic, whimsical… and just in time because this is when we need color the most to boost our spirits — the dead of winter! Looking at her images reminds me that Spring is just around the corner and I can’t wait!

If you like what you see above, Samantha is part of a fashion illustration gallery show at Gallery Hanahou in New York City that opens January 20th and these four pieces above are part of that show. The great part is, that if you like one of them you can buy it before the show opens — you have first dibs! Each illustration is 16 x 20″ and comes framed and matted in white gallery frames and are $500 USD each. The Interpretation

A work of art that explores the relationship between nature, motion and sound, The Interpretation takes us on a languid journey through a slowly flourishing forest. Hinting at vague memories of microbiology and rotating through a cool organic spectrum of greens, blues, browns, blacks and whites; this motion-based work will entrance its viewer as the forest evolves. The Interpretation is set to a minimal score filled with authentic sounds of nature, complimenting the environmental essence of the visuals.
